Simply go to Windows Update and check for Windows Update. Note: If, for some reason, your Internet Explorer downgraded to version 8 instead of version 9 then don’t worry. I would strongly recommend that you continue to use Chrome the way you’re using it. Reboot and this should bring your Internet Explorer version down to either 9. At some point, IE 9 is no longer going to be supported (much like IE 6 isn’t today). It keeps you current and makes sure that you get the latest patches. There’s no rush, today, but eventually you’ll want to make the move. Download and run Microsoft Fix-It tool and install updates (excluding Internet Explorer updates), and reboot the machine to finalize them. Wait for this to finish and reboot the machine. I’ve not heard anything negative about it, above the usual grumbling that happens with every new release. Go to msconfig, select selective startup and only load system services -> Services tab -> disable all non-Windows services (Reboot). Internet Explorer 10 is past that now, so it’s probably okay to install. I tend to agree that your six-month waiting period is probably a good one. I’d probably have you update Internet Explorer, but not for the reasons most people think. If you primarily use Chrome, just keep using it and keep it up-to-date (which Google does transparently for you).

Internet Explorer 11.0.7 is not available as a standalone download for the time being, but you can get it by deploying KB2919355, which is actually the patch that includes Windows 8.1 Update for both 32- and 64-bit workstations. Internet Explorer has received a new pack of improvements this morning via Windows Update, as part of the new Windows 8.1 Update rollout that includes some changes for the Windows platform as well.
